SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Certificate required.

 

AUTHORITY AND RELATIONSHIP

 

Responsible to the Director and Supervisors of the Division of Special Services and the building Principal.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. The school social worker assesses the developmental, affective, environmental, cultural and interpersonal relationship factors impacting the pupil's ability to learn and function appropriately in school. The school social worker has specific assessment responsibilities which are dictated by the eligibility criteria indicated in the Special Education Code.

 

  1. The assessment may include observation of the pupil, interviews with pupil, parent(s), and teachers, review of the pupil's records and additional informal measures.

 

  1. The school social worker serves as a consultant to teachers and administrative staff as well as school liaison with home and community agencies. During this process the school social worker identifies and facilitates the use of supportive resources for the

 

  1. The school social worker works in both general and special education to provide counseling to pupils and their parents.

 

  1. Act as the contact person for parents, teachers and administrators regarding a particular student.

 

  1. Facilitate the implementation of the Evaluation Plan and the Special Education program for that student.

 

  1. Schedule all necessary IEP meetings, contacting parents, teachers, principals and interpreters as needed.
  1. Organize the file for submission to appropriate Supervisor for program

 

  1. Pursue out-of-district placements when

 

  1. Check all phases of the Special Education Program and services to see that the requirements of the IEP are met, necessary services provided, and that the child is benefiting from the program.

 

  1. Work in cooperation with Health and Social Services
