JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: School Psychologist
Qualifications:

Authority and Relationship:
Responsible to the Director and Supervisors of the Division of Special Services and the
Building Principal.
Responsibilities:
- The school psychologist assesses the current cognitive, behavioral, adaptive and
social/emotional status of the pupil. The school psychologist has specific assessment responsibilities which are dictated by the eligibility criteria indicated in the Special Education Code.
- The assessment may include administration of standardized intelligence tests, projective tests, rating scales, structured observations, interviews with pupil, parents and teachers and other informal measures.
- The school psychologist serves as a consultant to teachers and administrative staff as well as school liaison with home and community agencies. During this process the school psychologist identifies and facilitates the use of supportive resources for the pupil.
- Act as the contact person for parent, teachers and administrators regarding a particular student.
- Facilitate the implementation of the Evaluation Plan and the Special Education program for that student.
- Schedule all necessary IEP meetings, contacting parents, teachers, principals and
Interpreters as needed.
- Organize the file for submission to appropriate Supervisor for program placement.
- Pursue out-of-district placements when indicated.
- Check all phases of the Special Education Program and services to see that the requirements of the IEP are met, necessary services provided, and that the child is benefiting from the program.
